Skin Care Is Not Just For Women!

Men what have you been told to do to take care of your skin? Sit back and think about it. It is not too often that a physician, barber, beautician, nutritionist, friend, or significant other will share with you the importance of taking care of your skin. The next time you are in a department store look around at the cosmetic counters. What do you see but counters and counters full of products for women? There are scents, perfumed lotions, and creams all for women. That does not even include the cosmetics!

But what do you truly know about taking care of your skin? What does it involve? As a man are you expected to primp and fuss just like women? It does not have to be that way or complicated. First think of Men’s Skin Care as proper care for your face as a starter.

It does require you to pay attention to your skin more than washing your face and body with the deodorant bar you have used for years. If your Men’s Skin Care only involves washing your face with harsh soap to remove grease, dirt, and grime off your hands or the deodorant bar that makes you smell like a “fresh spring” then you need to rethink the issue. With that said, it does not have to be complicated.

Did you know your skin is an important barrier for your body? Did you know that your skin is an organ? In fact, our skin is the largest organ in our body. If you laid it out end to end it would be about 16 feet long. That is incredible isn’t it? Taking care of your skin is just as important as eating healthy. Would you feed your body with a constant diet of junk food? Of course not, then why would you not nourish your skin?

If you work outside whether wind, rain, snow, or sun, it can all be harsh on your skin. The weather elements can leave your skin dry, rough, cracked, and even burnt. Proper care of your skin can assure your skin will remain healthy and do the job it was meant to do for years to come. Why should you care so much about Men’s Skin Care? Because your skin is just as important as women’s skin! Maybe or maybe you don’t care about looking as youthful as you once did. I know I have not convinced you that men’s skin care is just as important as your counterpart.

Have you heard people make general statements about the difference between men and women as we age? “Men looking older than women once you hit 40-50″ and “Men aged faster than women”. Why do you think this is so? Think about it, women start taking care of their skin at an early age usually in the preteen age only focusing more and more on skin care was they age. Men on the other hand typically do not think about taking care of their skin more than what a bar of soap will do. How many men do you know that will put lotion or moisturizer on their face even in the harshest of winters? I am here to tell you the trend is changing.

Go explore the options out there for you or the man in your life. Men’s Skin Care is just as important as Women’s Skin Care.

Great Skin Care for Men and Women.

What Does Your Label Say?

Have you ever looked at the back of your lotion bottle? Your eyeshadow container?  What is  DEA (diethanolamine) It is found in hair products and personal care products. It has been linked to cancer when exposed to formulas with nitrate preservatives.  How about Toluene – found in personal products & pesticides?  This has also been linked to cancer.

Have you ever asked yourself, “What business do these chemicals have doing on my skin?!”

Reading labels and knowing exactly what you are putting on your skin and in your body is very important.  Giving yourself only the most natural, pure produts will not only keep your skin looking beautiful for longer but will give you a healthy skin.  This will decrease your risk of makeup related breakouts, infections, and other problems that arise when using cheap, ingredient-filled skin products.

Anti Aging Skin Care Treatment – The 7 Secrets to Beautiful Skin

The way we age is part hereditary but mostly related to the environment, how we take care of our skin, and products we use. Products do differ in the benefits. It can be very confusion and often exhausting reading labels and trying to determine the most benefit to your skin. The ingredients lists of our products are lengthy and often have long words only known to chemist.

But it is more than the products. What you do to take care of your skin makes a difference.

1. Use a Gentle Wash. Washing and removing all make up, oil and dirt from your face in the morning and at night is important. Don’t go to bed with make up on. Washing your face in the morning and washing your face at night is very important. Washing your face is the first step to beautiful skin and good skin care. Washing your face in the morning will open your pours and refresh your face to start your day whether you wash in the shower or at the sink. Make sure your facial wash is PH correct. A wash should not be drying or stripping.

2. Use a Toner. Use a toner to remove what washing your face did not remove. A toner is a necessary part to any skin care treatment or skin care regimen. The toner should be a PH correct to maximize your cleaning effort and restore balance.

3. Use a Facial Serum. A facial serum that is full of minerals and vitamins will replenish the moisture barrier. The serum enhances the benefits of the moisturizer. Anti-Aging skin care treatment begins with a good serum or base that will replenish your skin. Anti-Aging requires minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants to given.

4. Use an Eye Cream. An eye cream is very important. The skin under your eyes is different than the skin on your cheeks, chin, or forehead. The skin under your eyes is very delicate. Your eye cream should help reduce the puffiness and tighten the skin underneath your eyes. If you can only afford one good product for your skin care, buy a good anti-aging eye cream.

5. Use a Moisturizer. The moisturizer will help you to achieve and maintain beautiful skin. The moisturizer must have minerals and vitamins in the ingredients. Copper is known to be one of the best minerals for an anti-aging skin care regimen. Stay away from products that have mineral oil and petroleum products as an ingredient. Mineral oil can clog your pours. Mineral oil prevents the minerals and vitamins from penetrating the first layer of skin to go down deep into the pours where they do their work. Moisturizers provide your skin with the necessary drink it needs to remain hydrated. You want to use a moisturizer that will hydrate your skin without leaving an oily feeling. Use products that have protection against the UV Rays even in the winter months. Your face is exposed to the sun even in the winter months.

6. Use a Night Cream. A night cream will help to replenish your skin with nutrients needed for the rebuilding of your cells. Make sure the night cream is placed on a clean face. A night cream will provide moisturize and rejuvenate your skin while you sleep.

7. Use all the above products on your neck as well. Many women stop the facial skin care at the jaw line omitting one of the most important parts of our body for skin care. That is the neck. Do your body a favor and provide all the same skin care to your neck. You will notice a difference. Did you know the appearance of wrinkles on your neck can give away your age? Take the extra 30 seconds and give your neck the treatment it deserves.

Okay, now that you know the 7 (seven) secrets to beautiful skin you may ask is it really important to use all those products? Yes, it is. Each of the 7 (seven) secrets provide individual benefit to your skin. It would be great it just one product could provide all the benefits but frankly it would not work. Would you expect your wash to offer a moisturizing benefit that would not require any other skin care product? Think about it, how could you possibly get the best minerals, botanicals, and vitamins such as copper, wheat germ, aloe, cucumber extract, green tea, just to name a few, into one bottle. Good products will provide you with a quick but beneficial skin care system. A beneficial skin care system should help to make you look as young as you feel. It should take tired eyes and make them look younger when the dark circles and puffiness and fine lines are visibly reduced. A botanically based formula support the special skin care needs of both men and women. An anti-aging skin care system should produce results to beautify skin. A skin care system that produces results should firm the appearance of the skin while creating a brighter and smoother skin.

Face Sunscreen, Protect Your Face From The Sun!

I have to laugh when I think of how I treated my face early in my teen-age years!  I was a teenager in the 70’s.  Our love for the sun ruled over everything.  My friends and I used to take baby oil and add iodine to the spray bottle.  We would then spray this on our bodies and expose ourselves to the sun.  Wait!  It is not over yet.  We would then take those record albums (yes they served more than one purpose!) and cover them with Reynolds aluminum.  We would then lay on the album or position the covered album jacket around our heads to achieve maximum sun rays!!!  After a day in the sun our skin would become bright red.  The next day we may blister and then ultimately peel.  Eventually, we would tan.  Of course that was after we killed many skin cells in the process.

Fortunately, after I went to college we knew better!  We would use tanning oil with 4 or 8 spf coverage.  Growing up near the Lake Michigan sand it was a combination for skin cancer!  Luckily we are all smarter than that now!

Although I still have the same love for the beach, sand, and water I have become more educated on how to save my skin.  Now I protect my skin with suntan lotion.  I have taken that one step further in attempts to repair the damage I have done to my skin over the years.  I am smart to protect my eyes with sunglasses, sometimes wearing a visor or a hat in addition to the sunglasses.

All my makeup from my moisturizer to my foundation has sunscreen protection.  I never go out in the sun now where I might be exposed for longer than a few minutes without suntan lotion.

I have searched many products and now decide my skin and body deserve to be protected.  In addition to suntan lotion I use a sunscreen that has anti-aging ingredients in the product.  So when I am in the sun I am protected with suntan lotion and along with antioxidants and antiaging preparations that are healing and repairing the cells that I am so insistent on damaging!!!

I have thought many times I could give up going to the beach and being outside in the sun but living in the Midwest I long for the sun on my face and body after the long cold winters.  Add a trip to Florida, Arizona, or the Caribbean in the cold winter months I am determined to get a summer tan in that short week of vacation!

Fortunately for me I am able to get my “fix” of the sun without doing the damage I did to my skin as a teenager!

I will share my secret with you.  You will not be disappointed.  I would never use anything else.  AND a little goes along way.

You Gotta Try It!!!

Skin Care Treatments – Do I need it?

What are Skin Care Treatments?  What does it involve?  Is it just “throwing stuff” on your face.  You might want to look much deeper than “throwing stuff” on your face and skin.

Think about your skin.  It is in constant repair and growing.  Yes, your skin is in a constant process of sluffing off the old skin and allowing the new skin to glow.  I always think of a snake shedding their skin.  By the way, I absolutely detest snakes.  Our cells are in motion of developing and growing continuously.

pentaxyl-nothing like it!

When you think about skin treatments I would like to emphasize taking care of your skin from the inside out.  Yes, from the inside out!  Good, healthy, glowing skin starts from the inside.  It starts with eating healthy, the right foods including veggies and fruits.  Lots of them!  Okay, yes fresh veggies and fruits are expensive but you know so is a bag of chips and it provides no nutritional value to you.  If you want your skin to glow and look great begin with your diet.

I have a great book that changed how I looked at my diet.  If you want to check it out…..

I absolutely love this book.  “You are what you eat, The Plan that will change your life”  by Dr. Gillian McKeith.  It has changed my life.

Even as a nurse I struggle trying to eat right!

More to come later!  Ellie
